1973 Ford Mustang Convertible

There are not many cars that can compete with a Ford Mustang convertible for appealing to the general public. EVERYONE loves a vintage Mustang, and this 1973 Mustang convertible has quite a lot to offer: 351 Cleveland V8 power, lots of choice options like 4-wheel disc brakes and A/C, and a beautiful color combination punctuated by the fresh leather interior. Mustang convertibles will always have a long list of admirers, and when they're dialed-in like this they sell like hot cakes.

The '73 Mustang was the end of an era, and while these ponies aren't as popular as the earlier models, if you want a vintage Mustang with a top that goes down, it's still an A-list ride. The Dark Green paint is a somewhat unusual choice (well, if you're British it's probably a favorite choice), but it looks great on the long hood and rounded quarter panels of this sled. This car was obviously repainted not long ago, and thanks to a life in a warm, dry climate, shows no rust issues in any of the usual trouble spots. In fact, the car is incredibly sound, with a dialed-in, top driver-quality presentation that looks fantastic when it's cruising down the thoroughfare. The big doors fit well and close easily, which means it's very solid underneath as well, and we love the silver hockey-stick stripes which were just neatly installed for contrast and really make a difference in the car's look. Overall, the paint is quite good and punctuated with a slick shine, and even the 'Richard Nixon' urethane front bumper is in great condition with no cracks or major damage. The dual-scoop hood, egg-crate grille and headlight surrounds, rear bumper chrome, and big taillights are also in excellent condition, suggesting a car that has always been loved. This white ragtop looks every bit as good in person as it does in photos, and there's nothing scary hiding in the corners, while it also folds neatly underneath the black boot.

The custom leather interior was completely redone, and now features tan leather seats and green cloth inserts – a perfect complement to the car's green livery. The handsome high-back buckets are in great shape with no real wear-and-tear to report, the same story goes for the beautiful accompanying door panels, and the matching green carpets and protective floor mats are still so fresh that they look like they've never seen the afternoon sun. There's also a center console with a clock and the shifter for the 3-speed automatic gearbox, and factory A/C (which has been upgraded with modern components and uses R134a refrigerant) is a somewhat rare option on a convertible. The factory gauges are excellent, with clear lenses and bright markings, and this well-appointed pony gets the basic speed, fuel level, and tachometer ahead of the steering wheel, and three auxiliary units in the center stack. The original AM/FM radio has been replaced by a retro-style AM/FM/CD unit designed with Mustangs in mind, as was the newer woodgrained steering wheel. Overhead, a white convertible top with a glass rear window retracts with a touch of a button, and stashes under a black boot, while the trunk offers a correct mat and spare tire with cover.

The engine bay is just as clean as the rest of the car, and far more impressive than it would've been in 1973, with the believed-original 351 Cleveland V8 dressed up with chrome valve covers and a chrome open-element air cleaner. It's nestled deep in there among the new A/C compressor, alternator, starter solenoid, and additional cooling fan, and master brake cylinder, so there's a lot to show off and it's ready for the road right now. It's been overhauled underneath as well, with a completely replaced front suspension featuring a new sway bar and shocks (among many other new components), while out back the shocks and springs were replaced as well, and the rear drum brakes were converted into a new power 4-wheel disc brake system. Power steering is part of the package as well, and the freshly rebuilt FMX automatic transmission and rebalanced driveshaft help this Mustang shift smoothly up and down the throttle. Period-perfect Mustang mag wheels give it a sporty look and carry 235/60/15 front and 255/60/15 rear Cooper Cobra white-letter radials all around.
